Florida alimony bill vetoed by governor

It is likely that this past spring there were many individuals in the state of Florida who were closely watching the alimony overhaul bill that would have dramatically changed the way the spousal support payments were handled in the state of Florida. Known as SB 718, the legislation made it all the way to the desk of governor Rick Scott before it was vetoed.

Trusts can make a worthy substitute for a prenuptial agreement

Prenuptial agreements are no longer frowned upon. Sure, it may still be a difficult discussion to have with your spouse; but a prenuptial agreement is to the benefit of both spouses. It protects what they want protected and establishes rules that they agree with; rules that override the "base" laws used by the state of Florida should a divorce occur. Without a prenup, the "base" laws apply, and they could lead to complications and heartache for the splitting spouses.

Sometimes marriage is not as pure as it may seem

Many Florida residents have this idea about marriage; that it is a sacred bond between two people who truly love each other. It is a happy moment, one that has no ulterior motive -- besides, the wedded couple vows that they will love each other until the end of their days. So clearly marriage is not a flawed system, right?
