Florida parents handling combative exes during a divorce

Going through a divorce can be a confusing time for any Florida parent. One thing can make this new experience even more difficult is dealing with a combative ex-spouse. Sometimes it may only be one parent who wants the divorce, and the other parent will do what they can to make the process more difficult for both the kids and their ex. Unfortunately, changing another person's opinion can very often be difficult, but there are still methods that can ease an individual through the divorcing process.

While going through a divorce, it is important to restrict negotiation talks. Limit discussions to the well-being of the children and, most importantly, not about finances. If child support or alimony is ordered, asking the courts to garnish those wages can help reduce stressful situations. After all, financial disagreements can complicate matters even further.

In addition to keeping communications to a bare minimum, the communication that does happen may be best done in writing. Documentation may be necessary should the couple have to return to court. It would be beneficial to stick to whatever custodial agreement a judge orders and to go to court at a later time for any desirable changes.

Again, dealing with a combative ex-spouse can be difficult for any Florida parent, but there are ways to avoid it all together. Also important is to remember that children are the first priority during any divorce. It is vital to have the least amount of tension possible on the children as they transition from a two-parent household to a one-parent household.
