Major life changes can lead to divorce for Florida residents

Couples choose to divorce for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons for divorce commonly cited by Florida spouses include infidelity, financial woes and irreconcilable differences. For others, the effects of major life changes, such as child births, job changes and health issues, are the events that lead to divorce.

Believe it or not, childbirth is actually an event that can lead to divorce. Raising an infant results in 67 percent of spouses experiencing dissatisfaction in their marriages, according to a study published by the Journal of Family Psychology. If an individual is already experiencing depression and anxiety, it is likely that he or she will have more issues when trying to adapt to having a new baby.

Another event  that can affect marriage is a change in employment, and this is particularly true when a spouse becomes unexpectedly unemployed. Job loss often causes marriages to fall apart due to financial issues and other burdens that must be carried by only one spouse. Additionally, a health condition can weigh heavily on marriages since it can create more debt and place burdens on a healthy spouse. A study revealed that a marriage in which the wife has an illness is 6 percent more likely to end in divorce.

Communication between spouses can help to decrease the chances of divorce. However, there are times when divorce is unavoidable, especially when marriages are beyond repair. In those cases, spouses can either have amicable divorces or subject themselves to bitter courtroom litigation. Instead of fighting in court, many Florida spouses find that sitting down with mediators can help them sort out their issues and allow them to avoid unnecessary trips to family courts.
